About
About HAYASHI
Initiating the Modern Era of Taiwanese Civilization
HAYASHI, which opened on December 5, 1932, represents a quintessential transition from "Japanese style" to "European modernization." It is not only a profound collective memory for the citizens but was also the window and catalyst for Taiwan's modernization. Today, HAYASHI has been reborn as a cultural window for Tainan.
Reborn as a Tainan Cultural and Creative Department Store
After a long period of closure following WWII, it was reopened on June 14, 2014, by Koche Fashion Co., Ltd. as a "Cultural and Creative Department Store." By blending cultural creativity with its historic monument status, it tells the city's stories through local specialty products. Since its reopening, it has welcomed over ten million visitors, becoming a radiant landmark. Once, Tainan looked out at the world through HAYASHI; now, HAYASHI is letting the world see Tainan.
